Chantix Day 8 - Quit Day 1

Short post...I've been so busy today, I almost forgot to post on this most important day!

It's been almost 24 hours since I had a cigarette and I feel great! I have not had any cravings or any of those awful withdrawal symptoms. Also, no nausea or drowsiness today (actually, that nice mellow buzz is back :-) probably just temporary while my body adjusts to the new 2mg/day dose. Anyway, this has been an excellent day...almost too good to be true. I've had other quits and the first day never felt like this! Ok, I know Chantix is not a magic pill, but so far it's looking pretty magical to me.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!! I'm so excited for you and so very glad that your first 24 hours have gone so smoothly. You sound great, too! Now that you've made it through a whole day, you know for sure that you can do it. Though, if you have quit in the past like I have, you already knew that but maybe didn't know that Chantix could make such a huge difference as all that. Anyway, very many congrats to you!!

Thanks, Maggie! I really appreciate your support and encouragement. I'm still feeling good, no cravings whatsoever! Kind of weird, when I first woke up, I thought, hmm, I'm supposed to do something... o yea, I'm supposed to go out on the deck and smoke a cigarette. Then I immediately remembered, hey, I DON'T SMOKE ANYMORE! So I didn't have a true craving to smoke, it just FELT like i was supposed to smoke because that's what I usually do. That's the habit thing kicking in and I know that will eventually go away.

And, yes I've quit in the past. I had a many-years-long quit before I started back last year. Quitting back then was nothing like this! Back then, during the first 24 hours without nicotine, I was a mess...curled up in a ball, screaming, crying, and cursing those who dared to come near! Too sad! Pathetic, really!

Nicotine is a DRUG, period! And imho, the only difference between a crack/meth/heroin addict and a nicotine addict is that the nicotine addicts' drug is LEGAL, while those others are not...that and the fact that nicotine addicts don't typically steal, kill, and lie to get their fix...but other than that, the addiction and the withdrawal are the same!

I'm really glad to hear that this time through is easier on you. I do think that having quit in the past for some serious length of time (for me, just over a year once) does help because I learned a lot that still holds true. Best of all, comparing past attempts to this time on Chantix is beyond belief. And, yes, I've heard more than once that smoking at least as addictive as a lot of things, and I believe it. Anyway, hope today is going just as peachy!
